Jessica had a few days off, so we set off on vacation together.
Our first stop was a dive shop in Jacksonville which was not very successful, but our real first stop was the lighthouse in St. Augustine. The picture below is from the bottom looking up.
We also went on the Old Town trolley and did some shopping. Then it was on to Universal Studios. We stayed in a resort, which cost less than my usual Quality Inn since this is off season.
We swam laps the first night.
Jessica is a bit addicted to pumpkin juice.
It is off season, which was nice, but it is also hurricane season, and Helene started looking bad. It was forecast to hit Tallahassee, which meant we would not be able to get home without detouring. And even then, you never know with a hurricane. So after only spending a day and a half at Universal, we quickly packed up and headed home.
Jessica drove through some wind and rain, but not bad.
Of course the wind and rain picked up Thursday. We had a little damage, but mostly flooding.
By Friday morning most of the water had receded.
I walked down the road a block to the bay. The three trees survived, but the trees are normally on land a few yards from the water, but not today.
Thankful for a safe drive home from our aborted vacation and for little damage as Helene turned to the east, but our thoughts are with those who were impacted. We were there just short of six years ago. Life here is divided into before Hurricane Michael and after Hurricane Michael, as I'm sure it will be for Helene's victims. Right now they are probably still in shock at the devastation. My hope is that everyone will pull together to make sure no one is without food or shelter. God be with them.
